The ensuing conflict in the Sarabhai family and character’s performance made ‘Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai‘, the most stupendous comedy show ever. Broadcasted on ‘STARONE‘ from 2004 to 2006, they received the positive response from the critics as well as the public.
In the final episode of Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai, the characters were found revealing their comeback soon, but in 2012 the news took fans by surprise after the director Deven Bhojani’s statement, stating that the show will never come back on the air. But, after gaining a vogue following, and receiving too many requests and support from their fans, the cast reunited in 2016 and surprised its fans by promising their comeback in 2017.
“Aya-Aya Sarabhai family phir se machane dhoom, Sabki dhadkane karengi dhoom-dhoom pat-pat dhoom! Puraane namoono ke saath naye bhi honge Hotstar par, Together they willl fill the house, Aur house dikhega cute-cute, gulu-gulu, jaise momma ka brocade blouse.” – Rosesh Sarabhai
How eagerly were we waiting to hear his poems again?
Very eagerly! right ?!
This is the first poem Rosesh recited during the live chat session.
And the wait is finally over. After 11 years ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Take 2‘ is set to bring more humor, with an added hint of dirty jokes and with a digital makeover on Hotstar. Yes! you read right this time it will air on your mobile, computer or laptop screens.
The show has taken a leap of 7 years from the time it ended. Sahil and Monisha have a son named Arnab (Guddu), ‘I’ll EXPLAIN’ aka Dushyant’s wife role is being played by Aishwarya Sakhuja. Rosesh is finally going to have a girl in his life, which, is to be played by Urvashi Upadhyay. A lot of things have changed in the new season but the most favorite part Rosesh’s poetry remained the same. Also, it will air twice a week, i.e. on Tuesday’s and Friday’s.
Let us see what all happened in the first episode of Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2!
The episode opens with the title “Monisha ki Mannat“.
Now, the entire Sarabhai family is stuck on a bus and in the middle of nowhere. Given that it is Monisha’s fault (obviously!), Maya has a lot to say and most of it involves Monisha being middle-class. Whereas Rosesh explains how a bus will fall into the valley but in a poetic form – “Kaboom karesh kim tom ching tong ching tong.” Then we are introduced to Guddu, Monisha and Sahil’s seven-year-old son. Wait, we were told his name is Arnab. Ahh! that is because Maya found the name Guddu so “north Indian punjabishly middle class.”
And, all of this happened in the initial three minutes of the twenty-four minutes long episode. Being the first and an introductory episode, the makers of the show introduced us to every character of the show including technical Dushyant whom Indu calls ‘I will explain’ and Madhusudan Fufa whom Indu calls ‘Behra Bakasur’.
Next, Sahil invites the audience to the Sarabhai house, which is now a penthouse and says nothing has changed in their family. But his family being at their unpredictable best, at the end of the introduction, he has to admit that things have undergone a slight transformation. Like Rosesh is now the lead actor in a TV show titled, ‘Bahu Macharr Beta Khacharr’.
Apart from Monisha’s son, there is Jasmine Mavani, Rosesh’s love interest, whose English is even better than Monisha. Now imagine what will happen when Maya will have a girl who is “actress cum singress” as her second daughter-in-law.
After watching the entire episode of the Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2 and the same madness that prevailed in the Sarabhai family seven years ago, we felt as if the characters have not changed a bit. Although a few jokes were repeated but we don’t mind that at all. The nostalgia of watching the funny banter between Indravardhan and Rosesh, and Maya Sarabhai on an anti-Monisha mission left us rolling on the floor laughing.
It seems, some things just get better with age and Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai definitely falls in that category.
