On Sunday night keeping the streak alive Los Angeles Lakers won their fourth game in a row against Minnesota Timberwolves at the Staples Center. Leaving Minnesota Timberwolves stunned D’Angelo Russell made a three-pointer game-winning shot just when the time expired. Soon, after which he was engulfed by his basketball family in celebration and was seen sprinting into the crowd trying to locate his family.
It was after the game got over D’Angelo Russell revealed to Spectrum Sportsnet that his grandmother passed away on Sunday morning and that the last game-winning score was a tribute to her.
It’s just God,” Russell said. “I just wanted to win. For me to win the game with a game-winning shot is God putting the cherry on top. A win would have been good enough.”According to Luke Walton, Los Angeles Lakers coach, Russell was not expected to play but he arrived at Staples Center and changed his mind at the last moment.
“We had talked this morning and originally he wasn’t going to play. Then he texted me on his way to the arena and said he wanted to play. I said, ‘Of course. Whatever we can do for you. I’ll leave it in your hands.’ said Luke Walton.
“I get goosebumps even talking about the way the game ended,” Walton said.“You could tell he was hurt,” Walton said. “You could tell it was painful for him. It wasn’t easy to talk about but you could see how much love he had for her when he was speaking about her, which was kind of awesome to see. I don’t know if he realized it or not. There was a lot of love he had for that woman.”
This is what Tyler Ennis has to say about D’Angelo Russell’s performance “He was encouraging, and as he was playing, I didn’t notice it. I thought he did a good job of locking in. It was a tough, tough day for him. Hopefully, it could brighten his day a little bit.”
