Scoring 100% marks in the top most prestigious entrance exam IIT-JEE Main 2017, Kalpit Veerwal became the first ever in the country to score full marks out of 360.
Kalpit who hails from Udaipur, Rajasthan says, “Though everyone suggested that I should go to Kota or Hyderabad for coaching, but I didn’t want to take studies as a burden and I wanted to enjoy what I learned. So I decided to stay back in Udaipur and take coaching here along with regular schooling. I knew I could come first but never thought that I could reach the magic figure of 360,”
His father Pushpendra Veerwal works as a nurse at the MB Government Hospital while his mother Pushpa works as a teacher at a government school. A student of MDS Senior Secondary School in Udaipur, Kalpit did not miss even a single class this year. Kalpit says “My parents were particular about my health and made sure that I never suffered even a slight cold or a cough. I spent five to six hours studying at home apart from the time spent in school and coaching classes,”
Kalpit’s favourite sports are badminton and cricket; he also listens to music which helps him in combatting stress. “Kalpit is an extremely bright student who also took a keen interest in other extracurricular activities. He also represented our school at the national-level competition of ‘Atal Tinkering Labs’ held by Niti Aayog last year,” said Shailendra Somani, director, MDS School.
Kalpit had topped ‘The Indian Junior Science Olympiad’ in Class IX and took the top spot in ‘The National Talent Search Examination’ in Class X, said his mentor Mohit Wadhwani of Resonance, Udaipur, where Kalpit took coaching. Now, he plans to pursue computer science from IIT Bombay.
